DFA - FOOD QUALITY & STANDARDS
DFA of California has been ensuring food quality and standards since 1908. Since the 1930's, we have been the inspection agency for several marketing order inspections. In addition, we have conducted quarterly unannounced sanitation inspections at our member facilities since 1954.

NATIONAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW RECOGNITION
The Food and Drug Administration has recognized our sanitation program for its excellence. A partnership was formalized in 1995 between DFA of California and FDA, in which, they recognize our expertise in food safety and sanitation. This partnership has been so successful that it was recognized by the National Performance Review in 1997 and awarded the "Hammer Award" by Vice President Al Gore.

FOOD & DRUG ADMINISTRATION RECOGNITION
Unannounced inspections examine the facility in a comprehensive manner where every aspect of the production facility is evaluated. This program has been successful by ensuring that our member's products are top quality and produced under the most safe and sanitary conditions possible. The inspections are unannounced and highly effective in assisting the company in complying with food safety and GMP regulations. If a member facility receives an unsatisfactory rating, and the ,problems are not corrected within a specified period of time, DFA, as part of the partnership agreement, is mandated to turn the facility over to FDA.

NON-MEMBER INSPECTION SERVICES
Recently, our Board of Directors authorized the inspection of non-member facilities. DFA applies the same rigorous standards to non-member facilities to ensure a complete and thorough evaluation. Please consider DFA as your partner in Food Safety and GMP compliance.

PREVENTIVE SANITATION
The precautions necessary to keep food clean at all stages of handling has helped create and maintain a high order of consumer confidence and acceptance, both here and abroad. Since 1948, DFA has had a fully staffed Sanitation department to provide professional counsel to the operating personnel.
The department's activities include:

• Frequent inspections of processing plants to assist in maintaining high standards of sanitation and cleanliness.
  
• Forums, lectures and clinics held for members' personnel.
  An incentive award program to encourage better sanitation practices in member plants.
  
• Demonstrations of modern cleaning and labor saving equipment at regular intervals.
  
• Technical guidance to the industry in planning for new buildings and installing new equipment.
  
• Development of better field practices, including production, quality control, product improvement, sanitation, handling and storage.
